Course curriculum
In this lesson, you will gain an understanding of the different financial instruments available to make commercial contracts viable, both short and medium/long-term, and of the benefits (and risks) of each.
In this lesson, you will learn the international framework which applies to export credits (OECD – WTO) and review the different public and private stakeholders that are implied.
In this lesson you will learn about the lifecycle of an export credit, including;
- Why export credits require large delays (up to several years).
- What goes into the documentation and term-sheets for export credits.
- How credit and operational risk affects an export credit
In this lesson, you will have an understanding of the advantages and disadvantages, as well as risks, of export credits for the different stakeholders (exporters, importers, banks and ECAs & their states).
In this lesson, you will learn what commercial banks can also offer such as commercial loans without any ECA cover to support export contracts.
In this lesson, you will learn the characteristics of development finance and the key differences when compared with export finance.
In this section, we will take a look at a sample case study that shows how simple solutions can remedy problems often seen in this sector.
This section will test your knowledge on what you have learned so far. Please note, this is not an exam.

This course forms part of the curriculum for the Certified Trade Finance Professional (CTFP) but can also be purchased on its own.
If you just complete this course then you will earn a Letter of Completion once you finish (please note there is no exam for this individual course).
However, this course can also be put towards achieving the CTFP qualification. More details can be found here.
If you complete the CTFP then you will earn a Certificate of Achievement, signed by the ICC Secretary General, once you pass the final exam
All candidates need to be able to read and write in English. For this course, we recommend that you have +5 years working in trade finance or have completed a trade finance qualification such as the ICC Academy’s Global Trade Certificate.
