Singapore, 30 July: The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Academy and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have announced the renewal of their strategic partnership. The collaboration allows ADB to continue offering the ICC Academy’s online accreditation programmes and will train another 150 staff members from 80 partner banks.

Having originally begun with the ICC Academy’s  Global Trade Certificate (GTC) and Certified Trade Finance Professional (CTFP) programmes, the second phase of the initiative will also include a comprehensive overview of export and import transactions with the Export/Import Certificate programme. The curriculum will contribute to ADB’s established Trade Finance Programme (TFP) by using the ICC Academy’s international training model and innovative digital platform.

The TFP—backed by ADB’s AAA credit rating—provides guarantees and loans to over 200 partner banks to support trade, enabling more companies throughout Asia to engage in import and export activities. With dedicated trade finance specialists and a 24-hour response time, the programme has established itself as a key partner in the international trade community, providing fast, reliable and responsive support to fill gaps in the region’s most challenging markets.

Commenting on the partnership renewal, ADB Head of Trade Finance Steven Beck said: “ADB is glad to partner with the ICC Academy for a second year in a row. In this training phase, which incorporates not just the Academy’s two trade finance certifications (Global Trade Certificate and Certified Trade Finance Professional) but also its Export/Import Certification, we will be training 150 professionals from more than 80 TFP partner banks. The TFP is committed to providing partner banks with the knowledge required to give companies the best possible support to reach their potential through international trade.”

Since 2009, the TFP has backed over 12,000 small-and medium-sized businesses across developing Asia, through more than 16,600 transactions valued at over US$30 billion, in sectors ranging from commodities and capital goods, to medical supplies and consumer goods.

Reflecting on the opportunity to train more than 300 trade professionals in total by next year with ADB, ICC Academy General Manager Daniel Kok said: “We are delighted to extend our relationship with ADB. This is another step forward in training and progressing capabilities in developing countries and strengthening international trade overall.”
