By the end of the lesson you will:
- Explain the historical development of General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and the establishment of the WTO
- Distinguish the linkage between WTO principles and FTAs
- Interpret the process of leveraging on the FTA section for goods
By the end of the lesson you will be able to:
- Identify key FTA technical clauses relevant for liberalising trade
- Explain the general rules of interpretation of Harmonised System (HS) product classification and tariff schedule
- Recognise why products must meet the Rules of Origin to qualify for tariff concession
By the end of the lesson you will:
- Explore Global Value Chains (GVCs) and the role of developing economies in the production process and the “de-nationalization” of manufacturing products
- Determine the features and variations of preferential FTAs
- Explain the key features of preferential FTAs in GVC
- Examine three sample case studies that recap what you have learned in the first three lessons
- The case studies will demonstrate how simple solutions can remedy problems often seen in the trade sector
- This section will test your knowledge on what you have learned so far and aims to equip you with the skills and context you will need in the field and prepare you for the final exam
In order to receive the official ICC Academy certificate for this programme you will need to sit and pass our final exam.

This ensures there is no outside interference and that your achievement carries more weight and respect. It also means you do not need to leave your home to take the exam – all you need is a reliable internet connection!

Your purchase of the Free Trade Agreement Certificate (FTAC) allows one attempt at the exam. If required, a retake can be purchased for USD $60 if you are still within your 12-month access period by contacting our Help Desk at helpdesk@iccacademy.com.sg
All candidates need to be able to read and write in English.
Your purchase includes 12 months to access all 5 lessons and the final exam. You can access the lessons as many times as you like within the 12-month access period. Once you have completed all 5 lessons, you will get access to the final exam.
The Free Trade Agreement Certificate (FTAC) has been reviewed by the International Chamber of Commerce – the organisation that creates many of the rules and guidelines that govern international trade.
It is also accredited by the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF).
It will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete the five lessons depending on your level of experience. The final exam is 60 minutes long.
Candidates will have 12 months to complete the 5 lessons and take the final exam from date of purchase.
